Being a leader means…living what you teach

Being a leader means…living what you teach

It’s not easy being a leader.

But you already know that. That’s why you’re reading this blog.

You know the challenges that come with making the tough decisions, and you’re okay with them. You don’t want to hand control of your life over to a boss any more.

You want to live for yourself.

I feel the same way. That’s why every day I am striving to become a better leader. I have developed several programs that teach people how to invest in real estate, I host webinars on an almost weekly basis, I have written a book, and I try to stay in touch with as many people as I can through Facebook and Twitter.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m done growing. And you shouldn’t stop either – even if you get some of the success that you have been looking for. Just because you feel healthy doesn’t mean you should skip an annual checkup or trip to the dentist.

Wait, is that a bad example? How about taking a car to a mechanic? Still no good?

Hmmm. I know. Just because you are in good shape doesn’t mean you stop going to the gym. You want to stay in good shape and improve when possible, always trying to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

Yeah, I like that comparison better.

So from time to time I like to research the different qualities of a leader and see how I stack up. I encourage you to do the same.

Today, I wanted to talk about being a role model. You know, “Talking the talk and walking the walk”. It’s so important that the people you are trying to lead see your message in action. In your life, they should perceive how what you are teaching them is put into practice. They should see the good and the bad, and they should see how it works out for you.

That’s one of the reasons why I talk about my life, both before and after I took making money seriously. I like to share some of my initial difficulties so that you can identify with me. I like to talk about my wins now so that you can see how what I preach really does work. I still flip vacant land all the time. It is my bread and butter – and I want it to be yours too!

Sometimes I feel a little self-conscious about my German accent and sometimes I wonder if people will really take me seriously. After all – I’m just a guy. But I believe so much in the lessons I teach that I live them myself every day.

Because that’s what a leader does.
